“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
The apostle Paul wrote the above verse while in prison! Poor Paul spent a lot of time in jail. Hmmm, how did he find renewal?? It appears to me, Paul found renewal through writing. What do you think? Today it is raining in my part of the country. It has been raining off and on for the last few days. My yard definitely needs renewal!! I have a little tree that I just planted at the beginning of the summer and it was beginning to look so sad. Watering from the hose was not enough for it, it continued to wither. Now that it has been raining, my little tree is so happy. It has had a growth spurt and is full of new buds!! New life!! I cannot wait for it to bloom again!!
We need renewal in our lives just like the earth. I have been on a journey this summer to find some renewal in my life. I didn’t really know what I was hunting for, but I knew I was looking for something. I began the summer organizing my hobbies! Phew! I had scrapbooking stuff and jewelry making supplies everywhere! Once I tackled that, I felt so refreshed and ready to work on my projects!! One goal accomplished!
My next goal was to get my jewelry website up and running. I began working on that next. Through encouragement from friends and the support of my husband, I got that accomplished! Yay!!
I have always prayed at night, asking for help and forgiveness, and offering thankfulness for the blessings in my life. My children go to Catholic school and I believe in the healing spirit of God, but something was still missing. I had started reading little prayers every morning from a little Catholic digest that is published regularly. Along the way, a friend of mine found some renewal of her own. She shared it with me and I was moved to tears and action! I immediately got on the Women of Faith website and started searching for some good reading. I had bought books in the past, but that just didn’t “speak” to me. I found a wonderful book written by Patsy Clairmont. The title is Catching Fireflies. I highly recommend this awesome book! The chapters are short. Each one is about the various lights we can find in our lives. She writes like she is having a conversation with you and it makes me feel like I know her! Her writing is light and renewing!! She includes questions for you to ponder and scripture references.
So how do you find renewal in your life? Do you take the time to refresh daily, weekly, ever? I used to spin my wheels trying to find quiet time in my life and no matter how fast I spun, the time eluded me. Maybe I was trying too hard!?! And maybe I wasn’t looking in the right spot!?! All I know is I have changed some routines in my life and I have found the renewal I have so desperately been searching for.
Here is my routine: AM-get up, sit in the bathroom, read either my Catholic digest pray for the day or read a chapter in Patsy’s book. Reflect on my reading while still sitting in the bathroom. (Trust me no one will bother you there in the morning! He! He! My family doesn’t even know I’m up yet since I’m not wandering around the house.) At some point during the day, go swimming with my 4 year old for at least an hour. No radio on while swimming!!! Enjoy the sunshine, the breeze, and the birds flying overhead. We try to swim every day, but if not, at least 3 times a week. Every day, work on something I love to do. Checking on friends on Facebook, writing for my blog, making jewelry, reading, or scrapbooking. PM-EAT SUPPER TOGETHER AT THE DINNER TABLE. Yes, the tv is still on, but we no longer sit in front of it. This has been a big adjustment for my husband. (I think he’d die without television!!) He didn’t start eating with us. He’d watch tv and the kids and I would TALK and eat! Slowly, he started to join us! Yay!
I have felt so good this summer as a result of all of these things!! Hope you are inspired by some of these. If nothing else, start taking time somewhere in your day to enjoy the earth and maybe you’ll find some renewal in your life! =)
