“We are born at a given moment, in a given place and, like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more.” ~ Carl Jung
I love, love, love studying astrology and the zodiac plus all the characteristics and diversities of each sign. You can learn so much about a person based on their zodiac sign and genuinely deepen relationships. The horoscope section of the newspaper is my absolute fave!
This month I’ll be focusing on the astrology of the July zodiac and the healing crystals associated with these signs. I hope you’ll journey with me and learn so much about yourself or those around you.
The July zodiac is split into two signs: Cancer and Leo. People who fall under the sign of Cancer have birthdays between June 21st and July 22nd. People who fall under the sign of Leo have birthdays between July 23rd and August 23rd.
Let’s start with Cancer, the sign of the crab.
My daughter was born under the sign of Cancer and let me tell you, she can be a handful. Cancerians can be very stubborn and moody, but if you ever need someone to have your back, they will be the most dependable person for the job. Hands down.
Think about the things you already know about the actual, real life crab. They carry around a hard exterior shell (their home), they have a soft under belly, sharp claws, if confronted, will move evasively to the side to avoid you, come in with the tides at night, mysterious, and love the water.
Cancers have all of these traits, which causes them to be one of the most challenging of the zodiac signs to develop a close relationship. She can be quite an elusive chick.
The sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon, so their moods will wax and wane with its phases. This causes the Cancerian to be a moody little person. The Cancerian cannot control her mood, so you will need to have patience when dealing with her.
“There’s a touch of Moon madness in every Cancerian. He knows a wild secret place where tow lilies and seven white roses grow among the iris.” ~Linda Goodman
She is guided by the heart and can be quite emotional even though she may not let you see some of her deepest emotions. Cancerians can be caring and empathetic, helpful and sharing, yet at times become non-verbal and elusive. They can also show a lack of patience and can be quite selfish and stubborn.
Folks born under the sign of Cancer are very empathetic meaning they are very sensitive to the emotional vibes that others are sending out.
A Cancer will pick up on another’s feelings very quickly and because they are already very emotional in nature, they tend to shut down. This doesn’t help the help Cancer in the friendship department.
For example, let’s say Alison is a Cancer and she meets a group of friends for coffee at Starbucks. A girl named Liz is in this group who Alison has only met a handful of times. Liz just got in a fight with her boyfriend and is in a crappy mood, but doesn’t want to talk about it with the group, so she hasn’t said anything to anybody. Alison will feel the tension radiating off of Liz immediately, and will transfer these negative vibes onto herself and think that Liz doesn’t like her. As a result, Alison will most likely withdraw from the conversation to protect her own feelings and thus not be able to begin building a friendship with Liz.
So you can see how easily a Cancer may struggle to make new friends.
On the other hand, if this scenario were to flip and Liz where to begin crying at the table and tell everyone about the fight with her boyfriend, Alison would immediately empathize with her in a positive way and do every thing she could to make Liz feel better.Once you have made a true friendship with a Cancer, that chics got your back! That is unless you cross her! She can be suspicious and can imagine all sorts of petulance. Sometimes you can patiently wait her out and she will forgive you, that is when you’ve actually wronged her and apologized.
But beware if you’ve crossed the line and hurt her beyond repair. The relationship is over.
Cancer is the sign of Family
Cancerians are extremely family oriented. They feel a very strong bond with their families, love spending time at family functions, and are home bodies at heart. Because they are very sentimental, sharing memories are a favorite past time and they love having deep seated traditions to be passed down from generation to generation.
Cancer as a Lover|Compatible Astrology Signs
If they feel trust, reliability, and openness than the cancer is a very dedicated lover. Remember that the Cancer is very empathetic, so communication is key. They rarely like confrontation so open communication is best. Cancers are easily hurt, hold onto grudges for quite a while, so will need time to heal from arguments.
Most compatible signs are: Capricorn, Taurus, or Virgo. A Pisces may be suitable, but one of you must be, let’s say, a little less emotional. 😉
Cancer at Work
Think of Cancer as the tenacious little crab. Hard, dedicated worker. If you want the job done and done well, the Cancerian is the girl for the task. Very loyal and focused.
Cancerians are also known to be good at saving and investing their hard earned monies.
“If you’re ever in trouble, always turn to a Cancer. One of the most reliable of all the star signs, Cancerians will always be there in a crisis with a compassionate ear.” ~Unknown
Moonstone is the Crystal for Cancer
Moonstone is strongly connected to the moon, as its name suggests. It makes use of natural energy and promotes calming energies. This crystal is associated with the crown chakra or crown of the head. The moonstone opens the minds and cleanses all the negativity from the chakras. It is an excellent crystal for meditating.
Moonstone’s Healing Properties
Balances the hormonal system, balances emotions, balance between heart and mind, happiness, aids the digestive and reproductive systems, enhances intuition, eliminates toxins and fluid retention, abundance, promotes inspiration, great for PMS, believed to aid in psychic foretelling, generosity, new beginnings, love, hope, and safe travels.
Placement of Your Crystal
The moonstone crystal can be worn as a pendant or a ring but you may need to remove it during a full moon. It can be placed on the forehead or heart during meditation.
How to Cleanse Your Crystals
When I say cleanse the moonstone, I’m not talking about giving it a bath, haha. I’m referring to removing and cleansing the negative energy contained inside the crystal as time marches on. The moonstone crystal will absorb all the negative energies surrounding it as you wear it. This is why it’s important to cleanse your crystal from time to time.
The safest and easiest method is to work with the energy of the full moon. Just take your moonstone crystal or jewelry, place it in a bowl or container, place it outside after dusk somewhere protected from the elements such as rain or snow, and leave over night. Bring your crystals inside in the morning. Your crystal is now cleansed, recharged, and ready to be adorned with your fave everyday outfit.
If you are not comfortable leaving your jewelry outside over night, you can place your piece on a window ledge to gain the same cleansing energies from the moon.
How Often to Cleanse My Crystals
If you wear or use your crystal daily or pretty often, then I would cleanse it with every full moon. If it is a piece that you wear or use only occasionally, then once or twice a year is totally fine.
Can I Wear my Moonstone with Other Crystals?
Moonstone can be worn with amethyst, turquoise, pearls, sapphire, onyx, and labradorite, lapis lazuli.
Moonstone should NEVER be worn with ruby, jasper, carnelian, garnet, bloodstone, malachite, agate, or heliodor. These gemstones are not friendly with one another.
Next up, we have Leo, the sign of the Lion.
“Her heart of gold radiates when you really get to know her; outwardly she is more confident than she tends to be on the inside; she’s snappy when in a bad mood; she likes to spend money, even when she shouldn’t; worries a lot; will support you if she loves you; the only real attention she needs is that of the special people in her life.” ~thezodiaccity.com
What do we already know about the lion? They are regal and proud, leaders of their pack, brave, popular, fearless, live in a cave and need this cave to retreat to, and they walk with dignity.
Leos have all of these traits and this makes her very popular in the sand boxes of life. She is also kind hearted, a glass half-full kinda gal, and usually straightforward with her peers.
Be careful though because Leos can also be very opinionated egotistical, and possessive. They tend to enjoy looking at themselves and can sometimes be a tad inflexible.
Leos are ruled by the sun which sprinkles their personality with energy and vitality. They love to get things done, are natural born leaders, and are in love with life.
Leo is the Sign of Passion
People tend to flock to Leos to ask for their opinions and advice due to their take charge nature and enthusiasm for all things. Although they can be very dominating, Leos are very loyal and steadfast people. The Leo is a social butterfly, difficult to resist, and well...the queen of the jungle. Click To Tweet
Leo as a Lover|Compatible Astrology Signs
Think adventurous, fun, and energetic. They like to take the lead. They are very independent though and prefer a mate who is smart. Leos are very affectionate and love being in love. While they give generously, they also crave assurance and compliance. Be careful though because a Leo can demand dominance over their partner.
Compatible signs for the Leo are Aries, Sagittarius, Libra, and Gemini. Signs to avoid would be Scorpio and Taurus.
Leo at Work
Leos are ambitious, creative, and dedicated workers. They enjoy staying busy, busy. They are very generous with their money and while money comes easily to them, this trait can sometimes cause the Leo to have budget problems. Because Leos can be so domineering, they tend to be better as the boss.
“My sign is Leo. A Leo has to walk with pride. When he takes a step, he has to put his foot down. You walk into a room and you want people to know your presence without you doing anything ” ~Wesley Snipes
Ruby is the Gemstone for Leos
Ruby, the color of fearlessness, imparts energy, positivity, and a passion for life upon the wearer. This gemstone is associated with the heart chakra. The ruby gemstone is too powerful for meditation purposes but can be worn to combat fatigue and charge up your sex life.
Ruby’s Healing Properties
Balances the heart, aphrodisiac, removes negative energies, detoxifies the body, generosity, great for PMS, happiness, integrity, decreases nightmares, reduces anxiety, energy, leadership, safety at night, concentration, enthusiasm, and healing.
Placement of Your Crystal
The ruby should be worn near the heart, on your ankle, or as a ring.
How to Cleanse the Ruby
Use the same method I encouraged above in the moonstone section utilizing the power and energy of the full moon.
Can I Wear my Rubies with Other Crystals?
Rubies can be worn with amethyst, white pearls, turquoise, emerald, coral, sapphire, carnelian, agate, lapis lazuli, and beryl gemstones.
Rubies should NEVER be worn with onyx, obsidian, malachite, or sardonyx. These gemstones are not friendly with one another.
Be careful combining rubies with moonstone, opal, quartz, aquamarine, bloodstone, jasper, or garnet. If you combine your rubies with any of these and feel like your day was not quite right, then avoid wearing them together in the future.
What if I feel like I don’t fully identify with the traits listed here?
Then my question to you would be, were you born on the cusp or between these signs? If you were born a few days before or after the Sun’s transition from one zodiac sign to the next, then you may feel the effects from both signs.
For example, to be a Cancer your birth date must fall between June 21st and July 22nd. But if you were born on the cusp, say somewhere between June 17th to June 23rd, then you may feel the pull of the Gemini sign and the Cancer sign. It’s the Cusp of Magic. Check it out. I think it’s pretty cool!
On the other side, to be a Leo your birth date must fall between July 23rd and August 23rd. But if you were born on the cusp, say somewhere between July 19th to July 25th, then you will feel the pull of both the signs of Cancer and Leo. Look up the Cusp of Oscillation for further reading. 🙂
And then further, if you were born between Aug. 19th to Aug. 25th, you may be the Cusp of Exposure feeling pulled by Leo and Virgo!
Isn’t astrology fascinating?! I could quite literally immerse myself for hours and hours of learning with this stuff. And nerd alert, I already have for this post!
But I’ve kept you long enough. I leave you with some simple meditations for your toolbox and resources for further reading to fuel your creative journey.
Mantras or Mediations
Cancer, the water sign: meditate in the shower or while listening to the sounds of rain or a babbling brook. Place your moonstone on your forehead or heart. (If your crystal is on a piece of jewelry, skip this step if you are in the shower.) Repeat this mantra: We all rise by lifting others up. Meditate for 5-10 minutes or however long you need.
Leo, the fire sign: meditate in front of a lit candle, fire pit, or while listening to the sounds of a crackling fire. Repeat this mantra: “It is the soul’s duty to be loyal to its own desires. It must abandon itself to its master passion.” ~Rebecca West Meditate for 5-10 minutes or however long you need.
